Course: Strengthening Human Resources for Health Khajuraho, M.P, India (2-7 March, 2009)

Course: Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in Health Lucknow, India (15-20 December, 2008)


Objectives:

Provide mid-level Indian health officials from state health Directorates with a better understanding on new and innovative models for public-private partnerships using Indiana nd international examples. Understand key principles of private-public partnerships such as contracting, evaluation of contracts, design and implementation.

Description:

The course will provide an opportunity for the participants to interact with practitioners from the field and learn about "what works" and " what does not". The course pedagogy provides scope for presentations and discussions by field practitioners and experts in the area of PPP - keeping a good mix of theory and practice. The course will be delivered by NIHFW faculty and faculty of other Indian training institutions, supported by sector experts from the World Bank.


Course: Quality of Care in Health Jaipur, India (17-22 November, 2008)

Objectives:

Provide mid-level Indian health officials from state health directorates with a better conceptual understanding of the quality aspect of health care.

Understand principles of quality management frameworks; issues of poor quality; standard operating procedures; and principles of quality management systems and be able to make use of them in their work situations.

Partners:

National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), GTZ and Heidelberg University.

Description:

The course will provide participants the opportunity to learn about new initiatives in the area of quality from across the country and abroad. Teaching methods will include lectures, case studies, role plays and site visits. The course will be delivered by NIHFW faculty and faculty of other Indian institutes supported by international experts from Heidelberg University.

Planning workshop for a course on "Improving Quality of Health Care"

Shimla, India (4-8 June 2008)

Objectives:

Design a framework for a course on "Improving Quality of Health Care" for mid-level health officials in Indi


Discuss with key stakeholders core areas to be covered in such a course, discuss course materials and potential case studies


Agree on next steps and how to prepare for such a course


Build the capacity of National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW) in delivering such a course.

Description:

The workshop participants developed and agreed on a framework with core areas for a course on quality of care such as empowering consumers, institutional development, clinical practice development, professional development and management development. In working groups and plenary discussions participants had an opportunity to interact and develop building blocks for a course based on Indian experiences and international examples. Two faculty from Heidelberg University, Germany which runs a reputed international course on quality ofcare facilitated the workshop which is part of WBI's larger capacity development program in Health in India. The workshop was funded through a local DfID trust fund and supported by GTZ which also participated.

Participants:

37 participants including government officials from central and state level, faculty from medical schools, NIHFW faculty, GTZ representatives and representatives from consumer organizations.
