1. Name of the Technology: A process for reducing the motility of spermatozoa and reversing it.

Field of use of the Technology: Reproductive and IVF clinics
The technology allows slowing down the sperm movement temporarily for various manipulations and withdrawal of sperm from the suspending medium restores the sperm motility. The process also helps to select stable sperms which are less prone to the process of oxidative stress.

1. Name of the Technology: A storage stable composition containing an enzyme or enzyme conjugate and a method for preparation thereof.

Field of use of the Technology: Production of thermo-stable ELISA KITS using horseradish peroxidase (HRP) as label.
The technology allows, enzyme conjugate to retain its enzymatic activity and immunological activity at 37ºC for three months or more than two years at 2-8ºC. The thermo-stability technology for enzyme conjugate will be universal in those ELISA kits that are based on the use of enzyme horseradish peroxidase as label.
Development Cost: There was no formal project while developing the technology. The development of this technology is an offshoot of the Research Project entitled “Development of ELISA for direct estimation of cortisol in serum using horseradish peroxidase as label”.

4. Name of the Technology: Simultaneous immunoassay for quantitative estimation of progesterone and human chorionic gonadotropin.

Field of use of Technology: Research and Clinical Laboratories.
The technology allows detection of two important analyte (progesterone and human chorionic gonadotropin) at a time. At present these are being measured separately. This kit is Useful for early detection of pregnancy; pregnancy monitoring and detection of abnormal pregnancy like ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage in human etc.
Development Cost: There was no formal project while developing the technology. The development of this technology is an offshoot of the Research Project entitled “Development of simple, sensitive, and cost effective do-it-yourself (user friendly) method for simultaneous detection of estrone-3-glucuronide and luteinizing hormone in urine for the prediction of ovulation”.
Any component to be imported: ELISA plates, protein hormones and steroid derivatives.

5. Name of the Technology: Reagent system for simultaneous enzyme immunoassay.

The technology allows detection of two analyte at a time.

The development of this technology is an offshoot of the Research Project entitled “Development of simple, sensitive, and cost effective do-it-yourself (user friendly) method for simultaneous detection of estrone-3-glucuronide and luteinizing hormone in urine for the prediction of ovulation”.

National Consortium of Training Institutions in Community Health
 
National Consortium of Training Institutions in Community Health is on effort to pool the experiences and expertise of several national, regional and state institutions as well as NGOs, who have been contributuing in area of health and family welfare training.
 
Goals of the Consortium:
 
The goal of the consortium is to contribute towords improving training and research related to community health through collaboration and coordination among institutions.
 
Objectives of the Consortium:
 
1.
To carry out research and to disseminate research related information to community health among various institutions.
2.
To develop innovative approaches to improve training training process, learning materials and to exchange material, resources and expertise in the area of training and human resource development.
3.
To assist networked institutions to strengthen their competencies in training and research.
4.
To develop resource bases on research and training in community health.

 

Initiating National Urban Health Resource Unit: An Effort of NIHFW for Improving Health of the  Urban Poor

 

Presently more than half of the world’s population live in urban areas and is rapidly increasing, especially in less developed countries. In India the 285 million urban population is increasing rapidly at a growth rate (1.8%) twice that in the rural areas (Census of India, 2001). India’s urban population is estimated to be doubled by 2026, with more than half of it staying in slum like conditions (World Urbanization Prospects: The 2001 revisions). In urban poor settlements the environmental conditions, access to services, health awareness contribute to poor health. Consequently, there are sharp disparities between the health status of urban well-off and urban poor sections. For instance, among urban poor households child mortality rate (U5MR) (101.3) is nearly thrice, severe under nutrition is twice (23%) and complete immunization is almost half (43%) than corresponding figures among urban high income groups.

An key impediment in improving health of the urban poor is the lack of data on health of the urban poor and program experiences in urban health. Likewise information on policies and program provisions are scanty and not easily accessible. There is a need of increased emphasis on bridging the knowledge gaps which exist in urban health and make the existing literature more accessible to policy makers, program managers, academicians and other relevant stakeholders.

National Institute of Health and Family Welfare which is the apex technical institute for the promotion of health and family welfare through education, training, research, evaluation, consultancy and other specialized services is committed to strengthening the efforts of improving health of urban poor. It has initiated sessions on urban health during its professional development courses and encourages research on urban health issues. It has also established the National Urban Health Resource Unit (NUHRU) in collaboration with the Urban Health Resource Centre (UHRC) in April 2006. The NUHRU aims to improve access of urban health literature and data to the students, faculty and visitors to NIHFW by compiling all the relevant articles, reports and other relevant literature in a single place. Presently, policy documents on urban health, slum development, programme guidelines, data, research articles, reports and experiences of successful urban health programmes are available at the NUHRU. In order to make the urban health information more accessible to researchers and program managers across the country, the resources in this unit have been made available in the website of NUHRU at: http://nuhru.in/
