General Objective

 

To enhance competencies of Health Science Librarians in modern information technologies and its applications in libraries.

 

Specific Objectives

 

At the end of the course, the participants should be able to:

1.      Describe the modern information technologies available to upgrade and access the required Health Information.

2.      Demonstrate skills in the use of these technologies to handle information resources .

3.      Describe methods/ techniques to assess precise requirement of the users and having complete access to the web resources.

4.      Explain applications and use of Internet, On Line searching (Medline, Popline, Pub Med etc.) and Email services for sharing the health Information resources.

5.      Describe application of multimedia, electronic publishing and bar code system.

6.      Provide demo of new softwares in the field of library science and digital environment.

ˇ         Library automation tools & techniques

ˇ         On line searching (Medline, Popline, PubMed etc.)

ˇ         Domain Experts in information age

ˇ         Copy right issues

ˇ         Open source Software & Resources

ˇ         DELNET and E-mail services

ˇ         Balanced score and information services

ˇ         Library Networking and consortia

ˇ         Electronic Publishing

ˇ         Digitization

ˇ         Preservation and management of information

ˇ         Internet (Web-Authoring, Net Surfing)

ˇ         Practical assignment

ˇ         Demo digital learning softwares

ˇ         Exercises and Practical Demonstration

Methodology

Participatory with lectures, group discussions, practical demonstration, assignment and hands on practice.

 

Number and Nature of Participants             20-25

Librarians, Assistant Librarians, and Documentation Officers, Information Scientists persons handling the information working in health science libraries.

 

Training Outcome

The participants would be able to use Modern Information Technologies in Libraries.

 

Road Map for Future

The proposed training course is being conducted regularly by NDC since the year 2000. This training course will be covering the professionals from Medical Colleges, Sister Organizations and SIHFWs initially. Later on trained library professionals may organize similar course in their institutes for which all technical support may be provided by NDC.

As per National Rural Health Mission, the next training course will be organized specifically for Medical colleges & health organizations of 18 focused states.

 

Remarks

There is no course fee for the participant of this course. Boarding, lodging and TA/ DA expenses will have to be borne by the sponsoring organisations/ participants themselves.
