INTRODUCTION
National
Documentation Centre (NDC) was established in the National
Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW) in 1977 by
merging two existing libraries at National Institute of Health
Administration and Education (NIHAE) and National Institute of
Family Planning (NIFP).The National Documentation Centre is
located in its own building in the premises of National
Institute of Health and Family Welfare near Jawaharlal Nehru
University, South Delhi.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The
National Documentation Centre of NIHFW endeavors to acquire,
process, organize and disseminate global information to
fulfill the information needs of the administrators, planners,
policy makers, researchers, teachers, trainers, programme
personnel and public concerned with health, population and
family welfare throughout the country. The library facilities
available at NDC are probably one of the best inIndia in this
field. Over a
period of two decades
NDC has developed a well balanced and up to date
collection of over approx.70,000 documents including books,
periodicals, technical reports, annual reports, statistical
reports, conference proceedings, modules, non-book materials
etc. in the field of health, population and family welfare and
allied areas carrying world wide
information.
NDC has been well
furnished with floor carpeting, furniture and fixture. The portraits of
eminent scientists and sceneries add more beauty in NDC. Display system of
journals and arrival of new publications are very well
arranged on the wooden racks. Books and current
journals are placed on the ground floor and the bound
journals, census of India and special
publications (UN, WHO, etc.) are arranged on the first floor
of NDC. Sitting
arrangement of users has been classified according to display
of different types of literatures – books, journals,
newspapers, respectively.
SPECIAL
FEATURES:
Conference
Hall-
NDC has got adjacent conference hall having 70 seating
capacity equipped with state of the audio-visual
facilities.
Book
Section-Books are well arranged on the iron stacks subject
wise according to IPPF scheme.
Open
access-
NDC provides open access facility to the users. It has two big
stack rooms. One room is at ground floor for books and other
is on first floor for bound journals and WHO
publications.
Reading
Rooms-
Reading room is fully air-conditioned with computer facility,
printer and internet facilities.
Circulation
– Circulation desk is fully automated with facilities like
computer, barcode scanner, printer, intercom etc.
Local Area
Network- LAN has
been installed in NDC with one Pentium IV and several nodes.
